As a member of our Employee Health team, the successful candidate delivers compassionate, professional and respectful care for all those employed by/working at JBH including staff, auxiliary, volunteers, physicians, and students.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Labour Relations and Employee Services, the Employee Health Nurse will be responsible for the delivery of Workplace Health programs and services while ensuring the promotion and maintenance of optimal health and well-being of all employees; practicing in accordance with legal and ethical requirements of the profession. The Employee Health Nurse will apply the principles of effective integrated disability management to all current cases of occupational and non-occupational illness or injuries.

Responsibilities in this position are as follows:

" Provides clinical occupational health nursing support as required;
" Provides advice and support to management and staff with regards to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring the organization is in regulatory compliance;
" Supports the Employee Health Surveillance Program in accordance with the Public Hospitals Act, using the OHA/OMA Guidelines;
" Provides oversight to the Employee Health office and offers support for the workplace health & safety and wellness programs at JBH;
" Shares and maintains knowledge of related government legislation and regulations [e.g. Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), Human Rights code, Infectious Disease, etc.], in terms of Return to Work, Workplace Accommodations, and AODA;
" Review and revise Policies & Procedures related to illness and work absence;
" Collect and track statistical data on incidents/illness, identify trends and make practical recommendations based on information;
" Provides expertise on the Attendance Support programs, ensuring appropriate improvements are acknowledged and continued absenteeism is addressed;
" Provide education on services provided to staff, management, and the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
" Works with external care and disability insurance providers, internal occupational health team, and physicians;
" Supports the evaluation, monitoring and management of Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD claims;
" Responsible to communicate with key stakeholders, employees, and health care providers to adjudicate and manage return-to-work planning;
" Facilitates return to work meetings and ensures all parties are in agreement with job modifications, graduated RTW schedule, etc.;
" Monitors return to work plans and provides regular updates to all stakeholders;
" Prospectively identify variety of potential modified work opportunities within the hospital;
" Works closely with the HR team to ensure the department functions in a well-coordinated and professional manner;
" Performs other duties as assigned, which are related to the major responsibilities of the job.

Your qualifications must include:

" Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (RN or RPN required);
" BScN preferred
" Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Occupational Health Nursing or commitment to complete within 18 months.
" Minimum two (2) to three (3) years' experience in Occupational Health Nursing combined with experience supporting WSIB, STD, LTD and Rehabilitation claims management;
" Expertise in relevant legislation, e.g. WSIA, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code;
" Demonstrated skills in planning and delivering education / training programs;
" Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, judgment, time management, negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
" The ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships with internal & external contacts;
" Strong computer skills in MS Office is required, experience working with the Parklane system is preferred;
" Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills;
" Strong customer service focus;
" Professional attitude that demonstrates results-oriented and open to a changing environment.
